Zsuzsanna Szénási graduated as a biologist in the University of Szeged in 1978. She was qualified as Doctor Universitatis (biologist) in 1983. She got her PhD qualification (medical sciences) in 1998.

She worked at the Institute of Clinical Microbiology, University of Szeged, from 1978 to 1985 and from 1993 to 2001 as Head of the Laboratory of Parasitology and Serology at the same Institute, first as lecturer, and then as senior lecturer. From 1985 to 1993 she worked at the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service of Csongrád County as Head of the Laboratory of Parasitology. In 2002, she was appointed to Head of the Department of Parasitology, National Center for Epidemiology, Budapest and directed the Department till 2007.

The main topics of her scientific activities are the following: 1) Laboratory diagnostics and epidemiology of toxoplasmosis and toxocarosis; 2) Research on the free-living amoebae, as possible human pathogenic agents; 3) Seroepidemiologic studies on the infections caused by Entamoeba, Giardia, Trichomonas, and Echinococcus spp, respectively; 4) Studies on the diagnostics of Dirofilaria repens. She gave account of her scientific results in 67 publications, and 269 lectures, partly in English, partly in Hungarian. She wrote some parts of 7 books and 4 notes for medical students.

She is engaged in teaching university students at the University of Szeged, as well as at the Semmelweis University, Budapest; furthermore, performing postgradual training courses for hygienists and laboratory specialists in medicine at the Semmelweis University, Budapest. She is a tutor of PhD students at the same University. She is a tutor of the postgraduate specialist-candidates at the Semmelweis University, Budapest and at the Szent István University at Budapest. Furthermore, she is a tutor of the scientific circle for students at the Eötvös Loránd University.
